The Story of Trudy Lite
Having reached the grand old age of 40, I noticed that the sexy, glamorous roles were rapidly drying up and I was getting offered more of the frumpy, mumsy roles.
My friends and colleagues would say “So what? You’re getting older. You should embrace these roles. After all, Marilyn Monroe would have been dead by now.”
Nevertheless it made me feel unattractive and unhappy.
I had always been fascinated by burlesque and had watched the ‘Faking It’ documentary - in which a drab, shy Welsh cleaner was transformed into the Goddess-like sexy siren, Scarlet Fever - so I decided to give my confidence a boost by attending a burlesque course...
I graduated the Burlesque Baby Academy
on November 10th 2012, having invented my comedy burlesque character ‘Trudy Lite’ (True Delight!) with my performance to Pink by Aerosmith.
I immediately started getting offers of work as a performer and teacher of burlesque and in January 2013 I was approached by Plum Roll Productions
with an invitation to use my burlesque character to collaborate with three writers to develop a YouTube channel
I had previously worked with Plum Roll Productions on several projects, including the highly acclaimed ‘The Unrest Cure’ in which I had played one of the aforementioned ‘frumpy’ roles as Cecilia Huddlestone.
The idea of the YouTube channel was originally the brainchild of a well known radio chat show host, Mark Keen, who had been trying out various ideas with podcasts and had observed the way that some YouTubers, Jenna Marbles for example, were making millions of dollars per episode.
We agreed that the millions of dollars profits we were doubtless going to make would be split equally 4 ways, but after we had produced 4 shows which, despite being warmly received, had failed to go viral and make our millions, Mark ducked out.
The rest of us, however, were so enjoying producing the shows and the opportunity to showcase our creative talents that we continued to produce one show a week until very recently when we decided that, in order to give us a bit of respite from the weekly treadmill, Trudy should be offered a big movie role and go off to Hollywood for a while.
Trudy Lite will be back!
However, with a bank of over 200 shows on all kinds of different subjects on the FREE channel, we have decided to just do occasional shows, focusing more on quality rather than quantity.
It has been tremendous fun, and the many fans of Trudy Lite - all over the world - have consistently reassured me that I am - despite my age - still an attractive woman.
The Trudy Lite Show has also given me the opportunity to collaborate with some wonderful actors who have appeared on the show to be interviewed by Trudy Lite, including: Anna Scutt, Annina Kaski, David McDade, David Richey, Eliza Power, Ike Khan, Jane de Florez, Jonathan Chase, Karen Cooper, Laura Jay, Loura Bern, Mark-Allan Pilgrim, Nigel Howells, Paul Henshall, Peter Osborne, Peter Spencer, Peter Stanford, Sally Farmiloe-Neville and Sarah Somerville.
We continue to share the shows on Twitter and Facebook and there will be more in the future on The YouTube Channel. Links below...
Who knows? One day maybe they will go viral and we’ll all be millionaires!
